The Glenlivet Distillery is located near Ballindalloch in Moray, Scotland. It is the oldest legal distillery in Scotland, founded in the same year that distilling was legalised by the Government, and since then it has operated almost continuously. The distillery remained open throughout the Great Depression and its only closure came during World War II.The Glenlivet brand is the biggest selling malt whiskey in the United States and the third biggest selling single malt brand globally. The most oaky and least floral of the range. But age and a particular selection of casks has achieved a distinguished maturity, almost intimidating. Sherry notes give additional depth to the distillery character and a cakey sweetness.
The Glenlivet 18 Year Old plays a bitter-sweet score with a beautifully controlled balance and an unfailing elegance. Oak is the conductor, handing over to fruity or floral aromas in turn with a discreet sherry influence.
American oak at its best (with the strong influence of first-fill barrels), developing an appealing fruity and herbal bouquet. Straightforward yet delicate. A perfectly balanced whisky which seems to blossom in every way, with a twinkle of youth in the finish.

The influence of Limousin casks, the same that are used in cognac, is obvious. They impart more oaky aromas (vanilla, bitter chocolate, creamy notes) than American oak. But it has achieved a remarkable smoothness, all edges cut and a rewarding complexity.
This Single Malt is light amber in color, not having as much time in the sherry casks as it's older versions .Yet it shows a perfectly balanced display of fruity and floral flavours. Oak is present but in the distance, bringing a mild and warming finish.
